The Young Authors program provides an opportunity for our students
in grade K-8 to write and enter a favorite story that they have
written this school year. Each participant received a certificate
of participation, and each classroom selected a winner who received
a special Young Author T-shirt.
Eighteen district students were selected to participate in the
Madison County Young Authors event which will be held at Edwardsville
High School on Saturday, April 27, 2002. During this event, the
students will have the opportunity to share their stories with
other children from other districts in Madison County, hear the
famous storyteller Kenya Ajanaku, and participate in specially
prepared writing activities.
In addition, Highland schools will be sending three students
to the State Young Authors Conference on Saturday, May 18, 2002,
in Bloomington, Illinois.
The students selected to participate at these conferences are
invited to attend the School Board meeting on Monday, May 20 at
the Administrative Office of Highland Community Schools. At this
time, the students will read their stories, be recognized by the
Board for their outstanding writing performance, and receive special
trophies for their fine accomplishments!
